The Cairngorms National Park in Scotland is a hidden gem for photography enthusiasts. With its expansive wilderness, majestic mountains, and diverse wildlife, it offers endless opportunities to capture stunning images.

One of the highlights of the Cairngorms is its rugged mountain range, which includes some of the highest peaks in the UK. The towering mountains, such as Ben Macdui and Braeriach, provide a dramatic backdrop for landscape photography. Whether it’s the golden hues of sunrise or the soft light of sunset, the ever-changing colors of the mountains create a breathtaking scene.

The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, making it a paradise for nature photographers. Keep an eye out for the elusive Scottish wildcat, red deer, and golden eagles. With patience and a bit of luck, you may capture intimate moments of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

In addition to its natural beauty, the Cairngorms boasts picturesque lochs and rivers. Loch Morlich, with its crystal-clear waters and sandy beach, offers a tranquil setting for capturing reflections and serene landscapes. The River Spey, known for its salmon fishing, winds its way through the park, providing opportunities for capturing dynamic shots of flowing water and scenic riverbanks.

For those interested in capturing the magic of winter, the Cairngorms transforms into a winter wonderland. The snow-covered peaks and frosty landscapes create a fairy tale-like atmosphere, perfect for winter photography. Whether it’s photographing snow-capped trees or capturing the play of light and shadow on the snowy slopes, the Cairngorms offer a unique winter photography experience.

In September of this year, we were fortunate enough to book a cottage holiday at West Gorton Cottage. This secluded cottage is located near Grantown-on-Spey in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands.

During this trip, I had the opportunity to fly my newly acquired DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone. As a newly certified drone pilot, I was eager to test my flying abilities and explore the possibilities of using the drone for photography and videography. This was a completely new experience for me.

Below, I have included some footage from the trip, which also features my very first attempt at video editing. I know that I have a lot to learn and improve upon in the next 12 months, so please excuse any unprofessionalism in my initial attempt to work with this new media (well, new to me at least 😊).
