Well, we have been doing a little planning for our USA trip, so far we have the first few days planned, which will pretty much find us driving from Massachusetts through New Hampshire and Vermont on to Toronto and Niagara Falls.
The plan is to spend our first night in a hotel close to Salem and then after refreshing our batteries in our hotel, our plans for our first day on the road are as follows:
Day One we are planning to make our way in to Salem, where we might take the Salem Trolley Tour to check out the Witch House and Witch Museum and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site with a trip to Winter Island before we jump in the car and head out of Salem to get I95 towards Portsmouth where we will head inland towards Rochester and onward taking in a few of the sights along the way, Swift Bridge, Diana’s Bath Waterfalls, Bartlett Bridge and Honeymoon Bridge for which New England is famous as we head towards Mount Washington and finally on to the Saalt Pub and Libby’s Bistro for a hearty meal and a couple of drinks, before heading for our hotel the Mt. Madison Inn & Suites in Gorham after some 180 miles in total.
Day Two will see us leaving Gorham and heading west into Vermont towards St. Johnsbury and on to Barre where we are going to have a mooch at the Granite Sculptures of Hope Cemetery before proceeding to Montpelier, the smallest State Capitol in the USA. We will then proceed west again towards Waterbury, the home of Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream where we will check out the Waterbury Station and Green Mountain Coffee before continuing ever westward towards Burlington and Lake Champlain where we will take the ferry to Plattsburg to have dinner at Gus’ Red Hots before our overnight stay at the Days Inn & Suites after another approx 185 miles.
Day Three sees us hit the road hard to power our way through some 349 miles as we head Northwest, crossing into Canada at Cornwall and then South West towards Toronto, where we will be glad to see our hotel room at the Holiday Inn Express in Toronto Downtown.
Day Four will see us exploring the sights of Toronto including the Harbourfront Centre, Toronto Islands and the famous Toronto CN Tower and Ripleys Aquarium before we make our way through the 80 miles around the western edge of Lake Ontario to Niagara Falls where our first night will be spent at A Moment in Time, a nice quirky Bed & Breakfast to prepare us for a full day of doing the sights and sounds of the Falls.
Day Five we will be spending at Niagara Falls, taking in the sights and tours, before spending our 2nd night at The Oakes Hotel overlooking the Falls where we will be staying in a Premier Two Queen Suite with a Falls view.
Day Six will see us taking in a 345 mile drive heading south through New York State towards Amish Country in Lancaster Pennsylvania. tonight we will be staying in the Travelers Rest Motel in Intercourse, Pennsylvania
Day Seven we will be taking a 2 hour coach tour of Amish Country, Pennsylvania from our Motel and before heading on towards Gettysburg we mustn’t forget a visit to Shearer’s Covered Bridge, it just has to de done!!!
