Are your experiencing any of the following in your Windows 2008 Server R2 or Windows 7 Virtual Machines?
- Black Screen on the Virtual Machine
- Slow Mouse Performance in the Console Screen
- Console appears frozen
This is due to the legacy XPDM (SVGA) Driver provided with VMware tools which is NOT supported on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2
The resolution is really quite simple and requires that you update the screen driver to use the new WDDM driver which is installed with the updated VMware tools that is provided as part of the ESX 4.0 Update 1 package.
Provided you are at at least ESX 4.0 U1 revision of ESX / ESXi then the updated driver can be found at the following location on the Virtual Machine itself:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers
